Incident: Said Nabi Siddiqi detained

According to a statement on the ACLU website, this month, Said Nabi Siddiqi was detained at various facilities in Kandahar and Bagram. In his statement, he claims that he was:

• forced to hold a 15-pound piece of wood in his cuffed hands and maintain a push-up position while he was doused with water, and beaten when he failed to maintain the position;
• interrogated every night for two weeks while cuffed and blindfolded;
• kicked and punched during interrogations;
• stripped naked and photographed;
• anally probed;
• subjected to stones thrown at him while he went to the toilet;
• deprived of his asthma puffer;
• deprived of sleep by having stones thrown at him and being doused in water;
• kept outdoors with no protection from the elements in extreme weather;

Incident: Sherzad Kamal Khalid detained

This month, according to a statement on the ACLU website, Sherzad Kamal Khalid will be detained at various facilities in Iraq. He will remain in detention for approximately two months. He will claim that while he was in detention, he was:

• severely beaten - kicked, punched, beaten while shackled, over periods lasting hours;
• forced, with other detainees, to run a gauntlet of soldiers who beat them with batons;
• threatened with sodomy;
• sexually humiliated;
• subjected to mock executions;
• deprived of sleep, and beaten severely when he started to fall asleep;
• deprived of food and water;
• denied access to a toilet, causing him to soil himself;
• forced to stand outside in extreme heat for several hours without food or water;

Khalid continues to suffer from stomach ulcers as a result of an untreated stomach infection suffered while in detention.

In November of 2005 The Washington Post will publish a further allegation of Khalid's that he was threatened with lions while held at a Presidential palace. This extraordinary claim may not be as far fetched as it first sounds, as it is known that detainees were held in and abused at at least one palace, and that Saddam's son Uday kept lions at his palaces.

Incident: Thahe Mohammed Sabbar detained

According to a statement on the ACLU website, this month, Thahe Mohammed Sabbar was detained. He will claim to have been detained for the next 6 months at various facilities including Camp Bucca and Abu Ghraib. In his statement, he will claim that he was

• beaten severely and frequently;
• stunned with an electrical weapon;
• forced, with other detainees, to run a gauntlet of soldiers who beat them with wooden batons;
• left shackled for several hours in extreme heat;
• sexually assaulted in the presence of other soldiers, including females, by being fondled and having several soldiers insert their fingers into him;
• subjected, with other detainees, to mock executions;
• threatened with detention in Guantanamo, where he could be killed;
• deprived of food and water;
• given spoilt food;
• denied access to a toilet, causing him to soil himself;

Incident: Arkan Mohammed Ali detained

According to a statement on the ACLU website, this month, Arkan Mohammed Ali was detained. He will state that, over the next 11 months, he was detained at various facilities in Iraq, including Abu Ghraib. We will produce scars as evidence of mistreatment during his detention. He will claim that he was

• kept in a small, coffin-like box;
• severely beaten during interrogations, at times, to the point of losing consciousness;
• stabbed;
• shocked with a small metal device;
• urinated on;
• denied sleep for days at a time, with severe beatings when he did start to fall asleep;
• threatened with death, including by being run over with a vehicle, and threatened with guns and swords; and
• threatened with detention in Guantanamo, where he could be killed.

Upon release, he claims that he was threatened that if he ever told about his experience, he would never see his family again.
