Media: AP reports Abu Ghraib prisoner died from Palestinian Hanging

Associated Press reports that Manadel al-Jamadi, the corpse of whom Army Spc. Sabrina Harman posed grinning and giving the thumbs up in the Abu Ghraib photos, died during a Palestinian Hanging. The Palestinian Hanging is a torture technique, so named due to its use by Israeli military on Palestinian prisoners, which involves cuffing a prisoners hands behind their back and then suspending the body's weight from the cuffed hands.

When summoned to reposition al-Jamadi, one Army guard described seeing al-Jamadi's with his arms stretched behind him in a way he had never before seen. The guard told investigators he was surprised al-Jamadi's arms "didn't pop out of their sockets." As the guards released the shackles and lowered al-Jamadi, blood gushed from his mouth "as if a faucet had been turned on," according to the interview summary. A pathologist later ruled that al-Jamadi had several broken ribs, and died from pressure to the chest and difficulty breathing.
